Contact Printing

Contact printing is a method of printing where you lay a negative and a piece of photographic paper down right sides together under a contact printer and expose it to light to create a positive image, or ‘contact print’.

In the dark room, we used our negatives as a guide to size to the light from the enlarger, making sure it fit close around the edges. Then we set the timer to 1 second, placed the photographic paper right side up and the negative face down on top of each other, closed the glass tightly over the top and exposed it to light. We developed them after to finish the process.
